Pulls

In getting into meditation and Integral and everything that swirls around this world, I find myself thinking about the pull of two different directions, and how I don't really want to follow either.
There is the direction of zaadz, the pull to fully own all of your potential and change the world.
And there is the direction of contemplation, the pull to take it as far as it can go, into lifetime-long retreats, if you will.
But, as I said, right now, I want neither of these things. Because what I cherish most are the small details of my stupid, little life: a nice walk, a good pupusa, a day when the rain clears the smog out of L.A.
I'm fuzting with a longer post about this. So it should show up here or at my other blog or maybe scattered across the two.

Love that. Reminds me of this Emerson thought from Self-Reliance:
“It is easy in the world to live after the world's opinion; it is easy in solitude to live after our own; but the great man is he who in the midst of the crowd keeps with perfect sweetness the independence of solitude.”
~ Ralph Waldo Emerson, 19th century Transcendental philosopher

Glad you liked it. Thanks for the qoute. Very cool.
rockin. Emerson is AMAZING. He and Nietzsche and Wilber are within arm's distance at all times.
So, I guess it's time to plug another gap in my education and read some Emerson. Thanks.
OMG! You will LOVE Emerson.
yep. those guys are cool. here's another cool dude: U.G. Krishnamurti
“When the movement in the direction of becoming something other than what you are isn't there any more, you are not in conflict with yourself.”
as for the pull between “two” directions: IMHO, do your best to gravitate towards what pulls you into the moment, be it spiritual practice, be it walking, be it whatever…
~C (for Conflict is illusory)
Ah… thank you.
I know as much about U.G. Krishnamurti as you have written about him on your blog(s).
Thanks.
